Jessica Wells is an employment solicitor who advises both organisations and individuals across a broad range of employment law matters. She provides pragmatic, commercially focused legal solutions to help employers manage people-related risks and supports individuals in navigating complex and often sensitive workplace issues.

Her areas of expertise include disciplinary and grievance procedures, settlement agreements and the drafting of employment documentation such as contracts of employment, staff policies and handbooks. She also has experience assisting clients in Employment Tribunal claims, including those involving unfair dismissal and discrimination.

Jessica has a particular interest in data protection compliance within the workplace, including employee data rights, subject access requests and data breach responses.

Experience & approach

Jessica joined Thomas Mansfield Solicitors in September 2025, bringing with her a solid foundation in employment law gained at a well-regarded regional law firm, where she trained and qualified as a solicitor in March 2023.

Known for her empathetic and practical style, Jessica builds trust with her clients by ensuring they feel heard and supported. She delivers clear, straightforward advice tailored to each client’s circumstances.

Before entering private practice, Jessica volunteered with the University of Hull’s Legal Advice Centre, provided educational support to inmates at HMP Hull and trained with Citizens Advice, where she advised on employment, housing and welfare benefits.

Jessica graduated from the University of Hull with a bachelor’s degree in Law with Criminology (Hons) before completing the Legal Practice Course and Master’s in Law and Legal Practice at the University of Law (Bloomsbury).

Notable work

  • Acted for a large construction company in defending several unfair dismissal claims, one of which included a successful costs application.
  • Assisted a multi-academy trust in defending a discrimination claim, including assisting with large and complex data subject access requests.
  • Assisted a retail client with data protection advice following a large-scale data breach, resulting in a successful outcome for the client.
  • Assisted a number of pilots with their exit packages from an international airline.
  • Advised a number of commercial clients on their internal policies and procedures and assisted with the drafting of updated staff handbooks, reflecting updated best practice and employment law changes.
